Medical Device Sales Salary Guide (Australia)

Medical device sales salaries in Australia ranges widely, from around $80,000 base for an associate territory manager role through to $170,000-plus in total package for an experienced territory manager, key account manager or clinical specialist.

What separates one end of that range from the other comes down to seniority, device complexity, and how much of the package sits in commission rather than base pay.

For anyone weighing up a move into medtech, or benchmarking where they currently sit, understanding how these numbers break down by role is more useful than a single average figure.

Medical Device Sales Rep Salaries in Australia by Level

Associate Sales Representative

Entry-level medical device sales rep salaries in Australia typically starts between $80,000 and $90,000 base, with total package closer to $100,000–$120,000 once incentives are included. This is the standard entry point for candidates moving across from clinical, allied health, or graduate backgrounds.

Territory Manager

This is where most advertised roles land, and where the bulk of data sits for medical device sales salaries in Australia. SEEK-listed roles average around $115,000 in Sydney and $120,000 in Melbourne, with total remuneration commonly reaching $150,000 once commission is factored in.

Senior Territory Manager, Key Account Manager or Clinical Specialist

Total packages typically sit between $160,000 and $200,000, particularly in higher-complexity categories such as orthopaedics, cardiac rhythm management, electrophysiology, and surgical robotics, where clinical selling and case support in the operating theatre carry a premium.

Regional or National Sales Manager

Base salaries generally start above $140,000, with total remuneration frequently exceeding $200,000 once bonuses and team overrides are included.

Medtech Sales Salaries: Base Pay vs Commission

Base pay only tells part of the story.

Most medtech sales salary structures in Australia are built around a base-plus-commission or on-target-earnings model, and uncapped commission is common in high-growth device categories. A territory manager selling complex implantable devices will often out-earn a peer in a lower-complexity category on the same base, purely through commission structure and case volume.

Location matters too. Sydney and Melbourne roles tend to advertise higher figures than regional territories, though regional patches can offer larger territories and correspondingly higher commission potential.

Company type plays a role as well – multinational device manufacturers and specialist distributors structure incentives differently, and PPD Search's medical device recruitment consultants regularly see candidates move between the two for exactly this reason.

Public salary data gives a useful starting point, but it rarely accounts for your specific device category, territory, or years of clinical selling experience.
